You are not what you think

Most thinking patters are formed in the early years. My childhood was less than perfect, in fact it was even colored by traumatic events. Some of those life experiences, helped to shape patterns of negative thoughts that influenced my behavior. You are what you are, or you are where you are, because of how you have been thinking.

My life story, for good or for bad, are based on those thoughts. I am a better person because of some of those experiences. The positive aspect is that, I love a good laugh and I am full of life. Nonetheless, the events were a fact. It happened and it was painful. The negative aspect of it was how I camouflaged my negative thoughts and how they influenced ever aspect of my life.

In other words, I can hide the garbage of my house in the basement, but sooner or later the smell will surface. I could hide my negative patterns of thinking but in the end, the garbage was there. If I wanted my life to take a different direction I needed to deal with my thinking in the basement.

The first step starts with a decision. The best analogy I can think of, is how boats change courses. A captain of any ship decides first to change the direction of a ship. A cruise ship, by definition, is designed for the comfort of the passengers. Even in a critical rescue situation, getting the vessel to turn 180 degrees will take at least 10 to 15 minutes and anything faster would create huge problems.

Our entire life will not change the moment we decide to change. Jim Rohn said: You cannot change your direction overnight, but you can change your destination overnight. There are a few wonderful methods on how to change negative thoughts. It is not an overnight process but if a cruise ship can do it, we can do it.

My goal is to empower young adults and teenagers to understand that they have a choice to change their future by changing how they think.  My teachings are based on life experiences, laughs and some amazing inspirational stories.
